On January 21st, 2016, the People’s Committee of Dong Trieu town, Department of Information – Communications of Quang Ninh province and the Executive Board of the Buddhist organization of Quang Ninh held a press conference to announce plans to organize Ngoa Van Spring Festival 2016 and the inauguration of Ngoa Van pagoda (Dong Trieu town).

The festival aims to honor, merit gratitude of the King – the Buddhist Emperor Tran Nhan Tong as well as educate patriotic tradition and promote advocacy to raise awareness of the people and visitors about the value of National special relic of Tran dynasty in Dong Trieu, actively participate in the management, conservation and promotion of the values of the relic.
As planned, Ngoa Van Spring Festival 2016 will be opened on February 16th, 2016 (January 9th on Lunar calendar) and lasted for 3 months. Festival program consists of 2 parts, in which the ceremony will take place with activities such as: drumming, ringing the bell to open the festival and wish a prosperous country. Besides, in Ngoa Van temple area and courtyard there are many diverse activities of the festival, such as cultural exchange of local “cheo” singing clubs; sports activities and traditional games such as tug war, blindfolded catching duck, catching scouts in jars, Con throwing …
Ngoa Van pagoda
Ngoa Van Spring Festival 2016 is organized associated with the inauguration of the new Ngoa Van pagoda. Located in the mountain of Bao Dai in Tay Son village, Binh Khe, Dong Trieu town, Ngoa Van Pagoda started up at the Tran Dynasty is the most important monument in the National special relic of Tran dynasty in Dong Trieu. This is where King Tran Nhan Tong meditated and established Truc Lam Yen Tu. Ngoa Van Pagoda is also considered as “mecca” of Truc Lam Buddhists in particular and of Vietnamese Buddhists in general.
